Hilgenbrinck’s final game was an afternoon on July 13 in 2008, in Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts in which The New England Revolution faced Mexican club Santos Laguna in a SuperLiga game.
Since June 8, 2016, Chase has been assigned to St. John’s Catholic Newman Center in Champaign, Illinois.
In May 2018, Father Chase visited Blessed Sacrament Parish, Liverpool, England where he held services at local schools during the Christian feast of Pentecost.
Hilgenbrinck quit playing soccer in July of 2008 in order to join his first year at the Catholic Mount St. Mary’s Seminary located at Mount St. Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, Maryland in order to become a priest. He was ordained as a Priest in the Diocese of Peoria on May 24 in 2014. He was an ordained parochial vicar at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in East Moline, Illinois, and was also one of the Chaplains in Alleman High School in Rock Island, Illinois.
The summer of 2007 was when the director of vocations in the Catholic Diocese of Peoria, Illinois provided him with an extensive application form. The applicant had to write an autobiography of 20 pages and answer several essay questions along with fingerprinting and a background check. In December, on the day following his return back to his home in the U.S. following the end of the soccer season in Chile He had to pass an entire series of tests. He had to take five exams in a single day and was assessed by three psychologists.
He joined the Colorado Rapids in early 2008, but was waived during the pre-season without making a senior appearance after the Rapids needed to clear salary cap space for other acquisitions. Two weeks later the New England Revolution called, and after a two-day tryout, the Revolution signed him on March 28.
